What to expect
This trip is for people who want to visit the most famous Catholic places in Europe. You will visit beautiful churches, pray with other believers, and learn about saints who lived long ago. We go to Fatima in Portugal, where Mary appeared to three children. We visit Lourdes in France, where Mary appeared to St. Bernadette. We also visit special places in Spain like Santiago de Compostela, where many people walk for miles to pray.
You will attend Mass at holy places, walk through old cities, and spend time in prayer. This is a chance to get closer to God and meet other Catholics from around the world. The trip ends in Barcelona, a lively city where you can celebrate all you have seen and learned.
Itinerary
- Day 1 - Arrive in Lisbon, Portugal: Welcome to Portugal! Check into your hotel. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and the other people on your trip.
- Day 2 - Lisbon → Fatima: Take a tour of Lisbon. See the big tower by the sea and visit St. Anthony's Church, where the famous saint was born. Then drive north to Fatima, where Mary appeared to three shepherd children in 1917. Walk around the shrine and see the Chapel where Mary appeared. Tonight, join the Rosary and candlelight walk with people from all over the world.
- Day 3 - Fatima: Spend the whole day at Fatima. You can pray quietly, go to Mass, or take an optional trip to see the Convent of Christ, an old building from the Knights Templar. Tonight, you can join the Rosary again if you wish.
- Day 4 - Fatima → Braga → Santiago de Compostela, Spain: Drive north to Braga, one of the oldest Christian cities in the world. Visit the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, a beautiful place with a long zigzag stairway. Each step represents something special like sight, hearing, and faith. Then cross into Spain and go to Santiago de Compostela. Take a walk through the old town and go to the Pilgrim Mass at the cathedral.
- Day 5 - Santiago de Compostela: Spend the morning on your own, or take an optional trip to Cape Finisterre, which means "End of the Earth" in Latin. It's a beautiful spot by the ocean. Return to Santiago and explore this famous pilgrimage city where people have been walking for hundreds of years.
- Day 6 - Santiago de Compostela → Burgos: Travel to Burgos, an old Spanish city. Visit the beautiful Gothic Cathedral, where Spain's national hero El Cid is buried. This church is huge and has amazing art inside.
- Day 7 - Burgos → Loyola → Lourdes, France: Drive through the Basque region. Stop at the Sanctuary of Loyola, built to honor St. Ignatius, who started the Jesuit order. Cross into France and arrive in Lourdes. Tonight, join the beautiful candlelight walk and pray the Rosary at this famous shrine.
- Day 8 - Lourdes: A local guide will show you around Lourdes and tell you about how Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858. See all the important places. In the afternoon, you have free time to explore or pray. You can also go to Mass at the shrine.
- Day 9 - Lourdes → Manresa → Montserrat, Spain: Cross back into Spain. Stop in Manresa to see places connected to St. Ignatius. Then go up to Montserrat, a monastery built on top of a mountain. This is one of Spain's most beautiful religious places. Spend the night near the monastery.
- Day 10 - Montserrat → Barcelona: Visit the Montserrat Monastery this morning. Monks live here and spend their days praying and working. See the famous statue of Our Lady of Montserrat and attend Mass. Then drive to Barcelona, the busy capital of Catalonia.
- Day 11 - Barcelona: Take a tour of Barcelona. See the Olympic Stadium with great views of the city. Visit the Sagrada Familia, a huge church designed by the famous artist Gaudi. It's still being built after more than 100 years! Tonight, enjoy a special dinner with your group to celebrate your journey together.
- Day 12 - Barcelona → Toronto: Your pilgrimage ends today. After breakfast, go to the airport for your flight home to Toronto. Bring home happy memories and a heart full of faith.
